Tube Types & When to Choose

  • Extruded Tube – cost-effective, broad size range; ideal for general fabrication and structural frames.

  • Drawn / Precision Tube – tighter OD/ID tolerances and better surface finish; ideal for telescoping sets, bushings, and precision fits.

  • Seamless Tube – highest integrity; recommended for pressure/critical or aggressive machining.

  • Welded Tube – economical for large OD/light gauge; good for architectural and low-pressure flow.

Typical Dimensions (popular sizes)

Metric OD × Wall (mm)Inch OD × Wall
19 × 1.5¾" × 0.058"
25 × 2.01" × 0.083"
32 × 2.01¼" × 0.083"
38 × 3.01½" × 0.120"
50 × 3.02" × 0.120"
76 × 4.03" × 0.156"
101.6 × 4.84" × 0.188"

Full size lists available; we cut to your exact OD × wall × length.

Surface Finishes

  • Mill & Polished: clean extrusion finish; polishing to brushed (#4) or mirror.

  • Anodized: clear/black/colors; improved wear/corrosion; consistent architectural tone (6063 is best for decorative anodizing).

  • Powder-Coated: RAL colors, exterior-grade durability.

  • Protective Films: PVC/PE for scratch-free fabrication.

Applications

  • Structural frames & machine guards

  • Furniture & display systems (lightweight, clean finish)

  • Marine rails & ladders (5083/5086, anodized)

  • Automotive racks & chassis components (6061/6082)

  • HVAC, handrails, bicycle parts, UAV/robotics

  • Telescoping poles (precision drawn 6063 sets)

How to Specify Your Order (send this in your RFQ)

  1. Alloy & Temper: e.g., 6061-T6 or 6063-T5

  2. Size: OD × wall × length (mm or inch)

  3. Type: extruded / drawn / seamless / welded

  4. Finish: mill / anodized (color/spec) / powder-coated (RAL) / polished

  5. Tolerances/Standard: ASTM/EN/GB or drawing tolerance

  6. Quantity & Packaging: piece count, bundle/pallet, film wrap, corner guards

  7. Certificates/Tests: MTR, anodize thickness, salt spray (if needed)

Example: 6061-T6 drawn tube, 25.4 mm OD × 1.65 mm wall × 6000 mm, clear anodized 10–15 µm, EN 755-9, PVC film, 2.0-ton lot, MTR required.

Quality & Testing

  • Dimensional inspection (OD/ID, wall, straightness)

  • Surface inspection (scratch/dent criteria)

  • Anodize thickness & adhesion tests as requested

  • Heat/lot traceability with MTR for each shipment

Packaging & Logistics

  • Export seaworthy packing: plastic sleeve + film wrap, kraft, end caps, bundle with edge protectors; fumigation-free pallet.

  • Lengths: 3 m/6 m standard; cut-to-length to reduce scrap.

  • Shipping: containerized sea freight, consolidated LCL for small orders, airfreight for urgent builds.

FAQs

Is “tube” different from “pipe”?

Yes. Tube is specified by OD × wall and tighter tolerances; pipe uses nominal schedules for flow. If you need NPS/Schedule, ask for aluminum pipe (ASTM B241).

6061-T6 vs 6063-T5—how do I choose?

6061-T6 is stronger and widely used for structures; 6063-T5 has superior surface quality and anodizes more uniformly—great for visible parts and telescoping.

Can I weld aluminum tube?

Yes. Use appropriate filler (e.g., ER5356 for 5xxx/6xxx). Note that T6 strength is reduced in the HAZ; design accordingly or consider post-weld heat treatment.

Do you supply thin-wall and precision drawn tubes?

We do—ideal for telescoping or weight-critical builds. Provide fit/clearance requirements.

Marine use?

Choose 5083/5086 or anodized 6061/6063 with proper sealing; rinse after salt exposure for longevity.
