What is Aluminum Foil?
Aluminum foil is a remarkably thin sheet of aluminum, typically less than 0.2 mm (7.9 mils) thick, produced by rolling large slabs of molten aluminum through a series of rolling mills. This process creates a pliable and conformable metal leaf that is impermeable to light, oxygen, moisture, and bacteria. You’ll often notice that aluminum foil has one shiny side and one dull (matte) side. This is a natural result of the manufacturing process where two sheets are rolled simultaneously; the sides in contact with the polished rollers become shiny, while the inner sides remain matte. Rest assured, both sides perform identically for most applications.
